The many benefits of Meditation

In my latest article I share how I personally found the benefits of meditating enhance my life and I explain the theory behind meditation and why it works.
‘Meditation is a practice where an individual uses a technique – such as mindfulness or focusing the mind on a particular object, thought, or activity – to train attention and awareness, and achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm and stable state’.
But how does meditation work?
Bear with me here as this is quite a challenge to explain especially if you are reading about this kind of stuff for the first time, for others you may be well aware of what I am talking about here as I try to explain why and how meditation works.
It is a fact that we are made up of an energy vibration that forms a matrix of patterns. These energetic patterns underlay and form our physical, mental and emotional ‘body’ in other words who we are. I am not a scientist but those who study quantum physics recognise that every cell in our bodies hold the properties of nature on an atomic level, in other words we are made up of a vibrating mix of atoms that resonate with the very qualities of the elements of nature and beyond. I have been working in the world of energy medicine for 20 years to help people become physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually healthy and I know first hand how working with the underlying energy has a long-lasting impact on a persons health and well being.
Becoming still
When we train our minds to become quiet, allow our emotions to flow, reaching a sense of peace or even bliss, calm and clarity become easier. With good mindful practice, you are training your mind to become still. When you are able to shut out the noise of everyday life or quieten the constant chatter of your mind, there is a whole other world for you to listen to, a healthier more in tune with your world.
This other world or other higher vibrations of energy, the very energy that created you is full of intelligent knowledge and healing and is abundantly available if only we listen. There are many different levels of energy vibration or energy patterns not just within us but all around us, and when you clear your mind and calm your emotions you will have access to and be able to connect to these higher vibrations, lifting you out of the drama of everyday life. Giving you the tools to be in the world but also be able to manage your world around you.
To meditate is the ability to lift out of the polarity life’s drama and see things clearly
Now, it is a fact that we live in a world of polar opposites; sun, moon, angry/ happy, male/female. When we get stuck in a polarity, such as frustration, fear and worry, depression or a state of anxiety, or stuck in an unhelpful relationship or a job that is unsatisfactory, then your ability to be able to reach that state of bliss will be more challenging. However, with regular practice meditation is an amazing way to view life from a different perspective, it is like having your very own ‘eye in the sky’, giving you a birds-eye view of your life. It can feel blissful when your mind and emotions calm and balance.
It does not mean that when you reach this blissful state you opt out of society (lovely thought for some I am sure!) rather better to integrate yourself on this planet and find your balance through meditation practice. Learn to flow between the two polarities (opposing forces) rather than get stuck in one or another. The more we are able to manage our own individual polarities in life, relationships, careers and business and find that centre of balance (or bliss) the better the world will become. This is where meditation through mindful practice can be a starting point for many people. Meditation is a practice to get you to a dynamic neutral space, the point of balance between the two polarities in life allowing you to ascend towards higher vibrations of intelligent energy.
TIPS TO BECOMING MEDITATIVE
Meditation is like an art so how do you do this?
Creating a safe space
If you are a beginner and it starts with creating a space in your home or another environment where you can be undisturbed, a quiet space, clutter-free if possible or being out in nature is a perfect place to start.
Relax your body
When you first start being able to relax your body is very helpful, so practice relaxation techniques, such as breathing, muscle relaxing or have a warm bath and create a peaceful atmosphere. Train your mind by creating this kind of ritual to get into your body will give you a great foundation to work from longer term and is good practice anyway in your life.
Focus your mind
Light a candle, so your mind has something to focus on, especially if you find your mind drifts off, simply bring your focus back to the candle. This way you start to train your mind to focus. This maybe all that you do for a while, gaze at a candle (that’s how I started), a blade of grass or a flower for example.
Use your imagination
Following a guided meditation can be very helpful too. Guided visualisations are a way to use your mind in a creative way. Visualising using the power of your mind is a way to access higher energy, to help you gain clarity on your life situation – it takes practice!
Use your senses
However, I recognise that not everyone finds it easy to use their imagination in this way, in this case, you use your other senses, such as listening to a voice or calming sound, even listening intently to the sounds of nature are a form of meditation, or try a sound bath (there are many around nowadays). Some of you may find that when listening to a guided visualisation it is your sense of knowing that comes into play rather than your inner sight or you may even feel certain shifts in your energy body, so you don’t have to be able to visualise to access a meditative state. Simply gazing at an object for long is good enough.
