Step out of your comfort zone – Travel Magically

When I was 17 years old I was confused, lacked confidence, extremely shy, felt anxious and feeling lost in the world. I managed to get a job working for a prestigious cosmetic house and at a very young age was put in charge of my own account. With self doubt, very little experience and low in confidence, I couldn’t understand how I managed to be in this position, but I managed to find my way through, listening and learning from those around me and doing what I was told. Growing in confidence, I somehow found myself stepping out of my comfort zone, when I was asked by a colleague if I would like to join her and her friends on a trip travelling around the Greek islands for a summer holiday.
I hesitated as I didn’t know them very well, yet I had this over riding sense of excitement which I didn’t understand at the time. It also felt like an opportunity to escape from my inner turmoil and the daily mundane routine. So I said yes and over the following weeks leading up to going, I bought a rucksack, sleeping bag and all the essential things that I needed for the trip. We had no plans, except a flight booked to Athens and the idea that we would travel around the islands, finding accommodation as we went.
As it turned out this trip really was magical, the fact that all five of us got on really well and we literally lived in the moment, only planning our next move last minute. It was truly liberating. The sun and sea nourishing our souls. For the first time in my life I felt truly relaxed and had no worries. I felt like my soul sang as I connected into a sense of feeling free, that I hadn’t felt before.
When we returned, this feeling stayed with me for a while, but what I realised is that it gave me a place to go to inside, when I felt the world was crashing in again. I could connect into the feeling of freedom, that sense was now deeply routed inside, I know now that this feeling was the very essence of my soul.
I would highly recommend travelling magically, going with the flow, being out of your comfort zone, it teaches you so much more, expanding your perspective, learning to understand yourself as a deeper level. And more importantly having the confidence to live the life that you want, not that which others want for you.
Anxiety, shyness and confidence issues are debilitating at any age. When you do things you would not normally do, it expands your awareness and perspective in life, gradually opening up parts of you that are closed deep inside.
Of course proper research to be safe is advisable nowadays, just to ensure you are not ending up in a dangerous situation and you have the correct kit, but keeping your plans ‘loose’ can be most exciting!
What are you doing in your life to connect more deeply to your soul?
